Find San Juan County Released Inmates

San Juan County released inmates can leave a local jail, a state placement, or another custody system, and each route creates a different record. A search for San Juan County released inmates should begin with the authority that last held the person. County release records document local departures, while state corrections records can show parole or probation. Court files explain the legal action behind many releases. A San Juan County released inmate search must also separate a true community release from a transfer, because a name vanishing from a custody list does not prove the person is free.

San Juan County Release Meanings

San Juan County Jail serves two distinct groups. Locally booked people may be held before trial or while serving a county sentence. The jail also houses some Utah Department of Corrections prisoners under a state contract. That difference controls where a departure is recorded. A local release may be tied to bail, an unsecured bond, a court order, time served, or completion of a county term. A UDC prisoner who leaves Monticello may still be in state custody while being transported elsewhere.

The word released must therefore be read with its source. A transfer means custody continued with another authority. Parole means a prisoner left prison under UDC supervision. Probation is community supervision ordered by a court and may follow a jail stay or begin without one. Discharge or expiration can mark the end of a sentence or supervision term, but the controlling order should confirm it. A death is an exit event, not a community release. These labels should never be merged into one broad status.

Time served
The custodial portion of a sentence has been satisfied, subject to any other hold.
Detainer
A request or legal basis for another authority to take or keep custody.
Parole
Conditional release from prison under continued supervision.
Discharge
The end of the sentence or supervision described by the governing record.

San Juan County Release Routes

A release type states what happened at one point in the custody chain. It does not always answer where the person went next. The San Juan County Sheriff release entry is the best local record of the actual departure time and reason. A court or Board order explains authority for the event. If another agency received the person, that agency's record resolves continued custody.

Release typeMeaningNext record
Cash or unsecured bondPretrial jail custody ended under court termsJail release entry and court case
Time served or sentence completeA local custodial term endedJail entry and sentencing record
ParolePrison custody changed to community supervisionUDC detail and Board decision
ProbationCourt-ordered community supervisionCourt order and UDC detail
TransferThe person left one site but stayed in custodyReceiving-agency record
DismissalA prosecution endedCourt disposition plus jail entry

A missing jail name is not proof of release. Confirm the actual date, reason, and receiving authority.

San Juan County Release Record Fields

No official San Juan County page publishes a complete data dictionary. The following fields are the useful items to request, not a promise that every jail document contains all of them. Identity fields guard against matching the wrong person. Event fields distinguish the booking date from the physical release date. Destination fields matter when a person left the county building under another agency's control.

FieldWhat it shows
Full name and identifiersWho the record concerns, including date of birth when releasable
Booking or offender numberThe agency's event identifier
Booking date and timeWhen the custody episode began
Releasing facilityWhich authority recorded the departure
Actual release date and timeWhen physical custody at that facility ended
Release type or reasonBond, order, sentence completion, parole, transfer, or other basis
Case, charge, bond, or holdLegal context that may explain the event
Destination or receiving agencyWhether custody continued elsewhere
Supervision statusWhether parole or probation followed

Three records can be needed for one answer. The jail transaction proves departure from that jail. The court or Board order explains why release was authorized. A receiving agency's record confirms what followed a transfer. A booking image is separate and has its own access limits under Utah law.

Request San Juan County Release Records

The Sheriff's reports page links the county GRAMA form. Send a reasonably specific request to the San Juan County Sheriff's Office, PO Box 788, Monticello, Utah 84535, or use klee@sanjuancountyut.gov. The main number is 435-587-2237. Ask for an existing record rather than asking staff to create a new release list or answer a broad question.

  1. Give the person's full name and a date of birth, booking number, or approximate booking date if lawfully known.
  2. Request the booking and release record, actual release date and time, release type, case references, and receiving agency if the event was a transfer.
  3. Ask for electronic delivery and request segregable public portions if part of the file is protected.
  4. Keep the response with the related court or Board order so each date has a clear source.

Utah Code §63G-2-204 requires a name, mailing address, optional email, daytime phone, and a reasonably specific description. An ordinary response is due within ten business days, subject to extraordinary circumstances. Under §63G-2-203, actual duplication, transmission, or staff costs may apply, but the first fifteen preparation minutes are not charged. Ask for an estimate because San Juan County does not publish one flat release-record fee.

San Juan County Record Access Limits

GRAMA §63G-2-201 establishes a right to inspect public records during normal hours, subject to classification and copying rules. Release material may still contain juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, security, privacy, or active-investigation information that can be withheld or redacted. A blank field may reflect protection, not the absence of a record. Ask the agency to cite the basis for a denial and to release any separable public part.

No current county page promises that a release entry remains online for a fixed number of hours or days. The lack of a web result is not a retention finding. Ask the Sheriff's records officer which approved schedule governs the specific booking and release file. Utah court systems also exclude sealed, expunged, and juvenile categories from public results. Expungement restricts access to government records, but it does not automatically erase every independent publication.

San Juan County Bond Release Timing

The San Juan County bail page says a judge has 24 hours to review probable cause and may impose money bail or an unsecured bond. Cash can be paid at the Sheriff's Office 24 hours a day. JailATM accepts credit cards with a fee, while faxed bail bonds are not accepted. No amount should be guessed because the judge and case control it.

Payment, court authorization, and gate departure are three different timestamps. Identification, paperwork, another hold, or routine jail processing can delay the physical event. The Sheriff's FAQ says booking and release times vary. Bond also does not dismiss the case. Record the actual release time from the jail transaction and use the court file to understand the conditions that remain.

The official county bond instructions show the supported payment routes.

Those instructions explain how payment starts the local process, while the jail record establishes when custody actually ended.

Two San Juan County Release Routes

A local detainee and a UDC contract prisoner can leave the same Monticello building by different routes. Local bond, order, or county-sentence events are confirmed through the Sheriff and court. By contrast, UDC says almost all state prisoners housed in contract county jails are transported to the Utah State Correctional Facility release building. They arrive for Tuesday processing at 10 a.m., and processing may take one to four hours. Direct release from the contract county jail is described as extremely rare.

The trip out of San Juan County can therefore be a transfer while state custody continues. Family should rely on UDC's instructions and the individual record, not apply that Tuesday schedule to a local bond-out. The UDC release-day page also says a person without a ride may, case by case, be taken to nearby UTA TRAX and released last. UDC transports people paroling to a community correctional center. No official Monticello jail bus stop, taxi procedure, or family waiting point was found, so ask the jail about a local pickup.

Search San Juan County Released Inmates

Begin with the last verified authority. This avoids treating a county, state, federal, immigration, or tribal no-result as if all custody ended. For a recent local event, call the jail and ask whether the person left, the actual time and reason, and whether another agency received custody. If staff can only say “not here,” submit the named GRAMA request. Then search the court that handled the charge.

  1. For county arrest, pretrial detention, or a county sentence, check the Sheriff release entry and the district or justice court.
  2. For a UDC prison term or state contract placement, search UDC and open the latest Board decision.
  3. For a federal sentence, use the BOP Locator and read its custody limitation.
  4. For federal pretrial, ICE, or tribal matters, identify the actual sovereign and use that authority's record.
  5. Preserve the exact result wording, date checked, identifier, and unresolved hold or transfer.

A current roster shows who remains in custody. A release record documents who left and how.

San Juan County Release Court Records

Utah's Xchange system can preserve the legal trail after a jail entry vanishes. It may show parties, filings, hearings, judgments, and the completed-case outcome. A bond order authorizes release under stated terms, but an unrelated hold can keep the person in custody. A dismissal ends that prosecution, not every other case. A sentence granting time served still precedes administrative processing.

Charge level determines where to look. San Juan District Court handles felonies and Class A misdemeanors. San Juan County/Monticello Justice Court and Blanding Justice Court handle many lower-level matters. Search the court where the charge was filed, not just the arrest location. If the level is unclear, both court paths may need review. MyCourtCase is for eligible parties and specified victim access, while public name research uses Xchange, a public terminal, or a court-record request.

The official Utah Xchange overview illustrates the public court channel.

The court result explains legal disposition, while the jail transaction remains the source for physical departure time.

San Juan County Post-Release Supervision

A UDC detail showing Location: PAROLE is strong evidence that prison custody ended but supervision continues. PROBATION shows court-ordered community supervision. San Juan County belongs to AP&P Region 6 in Moab. The Board decision explains the ordered outcome, and the UDC record identifies current status. A person who completes supervision may no longer appear, so a termination or expiration record is needed for final discharge.

San Juan County Jail is also listed as a contract Sex Offense Treatment Program site for UDC prisoners. UDC's statewide reentry work can include case management, treatment, education, vital documents, and AP&P coordination. That fact concerns state prisoners placed in San Juan. It does not establish a county-run reentry office or mean every locally released detainee enters state supervision. More detail appears on the San Juan County Probation & Parole page.

Property After San Juan County Release

The Sheriff's local FAQ permits authorized pickup of an inmate's personal items, but it does not publish released-person pickup hours. Call 435-587-2237 before traveling and ask what authorization and identification are needed. Do not apply state-prison procedures to the Monticello jail.

UDC uses appointment-only property schedules and requires identification for items left at USCF or CUCF. Those rules apply to state facilities. They matter when a San Juan-connected prisoner was taken to a state site, but they are not county rules. Keep the custody authority and property office together in every request.

San Juan County Federal Release Checks

For a federal sentence, the BOP Locator covers prisoners released after 1982. A past release date with Released or Not in BOP Custody proves exit from BOP custody only. It does not rule out supervised release, state custody, or another authority. USMS often manages federal pretrial custody and transport but has no comparable historical locator. A marshal transport out of Monticello is continued custody; use the federal docket for the controlling order.

ICE's detainee locator covers current detention and people released for a limited 60-day period. An ICE release may mean bond, parole, supervision, removal, or another outcome. No current San Juan County ICE contract was verified. San Juan County's Navajo Nation lands also create a multi-sovereign issue. Identify the arresting agency, court, and actual facility before choosing a tribal, federal, county, or state system. County absence alone proves none of those transfers.

San Juan County Release Lookup Choices

Each source answers a narrow question. Use the record that owns the event and then corroborate it. A quick call can settle an urgent current-status question, but a written transaction or order is stronger proof when dates and destinations matter.
